Let us praise ourselves for the way things are going in our crimes detection, prosecution and courts ruling.
We see a serious endeavour this time round. We expect that those in courts will be justly convicted of their crimes. And that they will get a punishment equal to the economic crimes they have committed. That they'll return what they have stolen and be given a jail term of not less than 10 years. Such people are a threat to our society. They have caused suffering to fellow human beings.They should suffer equally.
One of the functions of punishment is to deter others from committing the same crime. Any right thinking Kenyan who watched the facial looks of the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, his Ps and the Kiambu governor would think twice before they did something that could land them on the same docks after a hungry and sleepless night. Of course, the Kiambu First Lady bore it like all women do; contemptuous to all including the innocent viewers.
I always wonder how these suspects are able to face their families after appearing on the docks. Most Kenyans hold the suspects guilty until they prove themselves innocent. And we know that if the legal systems work well they are guilty.
Let us hope and believe that the multifaceted war on the massive thieving we have witnessed in the last 7 or so years has kicked off well.
