I hope you will not reveal my real name and sources of the info i will share.
I am a resident of Utawala bordering Machakos county. For years we have been denied development due to the fact that we are strategically disadvantaged for the Machakos county due to the proximity to Nairobi.
Recently, the main road to Utawala connecting to the eastern bypass was tarmacked courtesy of efforts by the county government of Nairobi and Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA),the cost was Kshs. 12.5 Million.
Last year the main road otherwise known as Kincar-MC-Airways-Zebra road, a stretch of about four kilometers was in such a deplorable state that residents had to fund raise in order to have some grading work and patch-up done on the road. It was simply impassable.
We have been pressuring our government agencies particularly KURA to extend the work they did on the Nairobi side to the small stretch. They responded to our tweets by saying they are consulting with the Machakos County government on the same.
However, in a TV interview, the Governor of Machakos Dr. Alfred Mutua, cleverly avoided the question alluding that his government is planning to do some cabro works on the road instead.
Now here is the shocker. Through our friends in government, some of who reside in the area, we have come to learn that the road was allocated a total of Kshs. 50 million cleverly disguised in various budget votes to show like it was three different roads.
In the attached document (confidentially acquired) you will see that the money was broken down into three tranches of 20, 20 and 10 million all for the same road but cleverly disguised.
The document also shows that a total of Kshs. 15 million has already been withdrawn and our fear is that the rest might be withdrawn before June 2019, to beat the budget deadline.
The truth is, no work has been done on this road by any government agency for the last four years. even today, there is no activity to suggest anything is happening anytime soon.
Please expose this scandal to save our country this money.
Let us also dig to know where the Kshs. 15 million has gone so far.
