Deputy President William Ruto's captain Mario Magonga dies in a chopper crash in Turkana County.
The Captain who was ferrying 4 American tourists to the remote Central Island National Park died in the crash that police say, happened at around 8 p.m yesterday.
The wreckage of the chopper and bodies of the deceased was discovered this morning at 4 a.m.
The National Police Service, through their Twitter handle, released the following statement: Last evening at about 8pm, a helicopter crashed at Central Island National Park in Lake Turkana, killing all its five occupants on board. Security personnel dispatched to the scene confirmed that among the five were four Americans and the Kenyan Pilot. Available information indicates that two helicopters had landed earlier at Labolo tented Camp on the National Park’s Island, however one managed to clear the area safely. Security teams are on the scene to assist in the recovery efforts. The cause of the incident is yet to be established and the details of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been notified. The National Police Service extends it's condolences to the families and friends of the bereaved. We shall update this page as more details come in.
