Christophe Orcet, New Country Manager, Carrefour Despite the departure of former Country Manager Franck Moreau and the appointment of Christophe Orcet, the mistreatment of employees at Carrefour Kenya continues to be a serious concern, as many employees still feel that their complaints are being ignored.
Mr Moreau left the company after 23 years of serving in different capacities.
His resignation was a confirmation of earlier rumours that emerged in December 2022 that Moreau had tendered his resignation amid massive public outrage regarding the numerous scandals surrounding the company.
We are now reliably informed that days after Moreau's exit, Carrefour Kenya Human Resource Manager Roselyn Osimbo Kweyu also tendered her resignation.
This new development comes as the firm faces increasing pressure to address the mistreatment of staff at its Two Rivers branch.
With so many key personnel leaving the company, it is clear that urgent action is needed to address the underlying issues and restore the confidence of employees and the public in Carrefour Kenya.
According to anonymous staff members who spoke to nyakundireport.com , they are forced to work long hours with no break or compensation, and despite raising the issue with Carrefour Dubai Head Office, nothing has been done to address their concerns.
Last month, we reported how former employee Byron Makokha was unfairly dismissed for speaking out against the injustices and poor working conditions at the company.

As the new Country Manager, Orcet has a responsibility to address the concerns raised by employees and restore confidence in the company. We hope that he will take swift action to improve the working conditions of Carrefour Kenya employees and ensure that the mistreatment of staff is no longer tolerated.
Makokha had exposed what he described as an intimidating and frustrating work environment, where junior staff were constantly intimidated, frustrated, and insulted by their supervisors.
Despite his attempts to raise the issue with management, no action was taken. Carrefour Kenya responded to his allegations with a show-cause letter, accusing him of making unverified claims.
However, Makokha maintained that his revelations were factual and offered a response letter to support his claims.
After a disciplinary meeting on February 13, 2022, the committee ruled that Makokha had breached his contractual obligations and the company's code of ethics, resulting in his dismissal.
Following his unfair dismissal, Makokha made an appeal to Carrefour's parent company, Majid Al Futtaim Limited.
He called Majid Al Futtaim's main offices in Dubai through a hotline number to explain the circumstances surrounding his sacking.
After submitting a full report regarding the incident, Makokha was informed that the details of the report had been provided to Majid Al Futtaim Management Services.
Majid Al Futtaim Management officials also wrote a letter to the Carrefour Two Rivers Head Office to explain why they unfairly sacked Mr Makokha.
However, Carrefour Kenya has yet to respond to the Dubai office explaining their actions.
In response to the criticism, Majid Al Futtaim Limited has appointed Orcet as the new country manager.
Orcet, who has previously served as the head of operations and commercial for the MAF Carrefour in the United Arab Emirates, took over from Franck Moreau on March 1, 2023.
As the dust settles on Moreau's departure, the focus now shifts to the future of Carrefour Kenya and the steps that Orcet will take to address the concerns raised by employees.
