By 1 Jan 2019, the total number of 737NGs ordered was over 7000, 70% of which were for the -800 series. By 1 Jan 2019, the 737 had sold 15,207 aircraft and had an order backlog of 4,763 aircraft, including more than 5,000 orders for the 737 MAX. This is about one-third of the entire order backlog for all large commercial jets built by Boeing and Airbus.
