Communications Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba A group of workers recently sacked by the Communications Authority of Kenya have decried what they term an unfair layoff exercise.
Speaking on behalf of distressed colleagues, one of the contractors has accused the newly appointed Director-General at the agency Mr Ezra Chiloba of illegally cancelling their recently signed contracts without any given reason.
They say that the move came as a huge surprise given they signed 3-year contracts and had only served for 6 months.
In the dismissal letter reportedly issued out through his proxy Human Resource (HR) Manager Juma Kandie, the authority claimed it was not possible to proceed with the existing contracts as they are in the process of transitioning into a new structure. "Once the process is completed, the positions arising from the new organization structure will be advertised and were encourage you to apply," it read in part. "In line with the HR Policy & Procedures Manual and your contract engagement letter, you will be paid service gratuity for the six (6) months contract served," it added. "I am a contractor who was laid off by Mr Chiloba. Having done my contract for 3 and half years. He used hi HR proxxy juma kandie to do us letter. He cancelled all contracts for no reason. Many are fathers and mothers depending on this contract," the source writes.
