Residents and people who work in Muthaiga are complaining over apartheid-like discrimination.
“Please raise this issue of Muthaiga road being privatized, whereby normal mwananchi are not allowed to use the road, unless you have a job ID of the place you are working. To the best of my knowledge, Muthaiga road is a public road which is to be accessed by anybody. If you ask the cops manning the road why the restrictions, they say they received orders from above. I am wondering who is this above who wants to privatize a public road?”, a complainant wrote.
The rich have eaten to their fill and are now vomiting on the shoes of Kenyans. They are fearing a backlash from the natives who are already on edge thanks to the looting and corruption that has been on steroids for 7 years now.
Construction workers , shamba boys and househelps suffer the most in this apartheid system. They come from low-income neighborhoods and they depend on the jobs in the area to get by in their hand-to-mouth existence.
Placing the police between them and the back-breaking jobs is an insult.
Not forgetting how the job market, with over 60 per cent unemployment, is non-existent.
Reports indicate that Muthaiga Residents Association chairperson on Wednesday asked all residents to provide details of workers visiting the area.
The association also ordered all inhabitants to issue their workers with job cards or letters stating their particulars.
Required are names of the employees, their ID numbers, plot or house number they are visiting, their eemployer and their contact details.
For commercial vehicles - such as those going to a construction site or service vehicles - a letter must be provided by the persons they are delivering material to. The vehicles too must register their registration plate number, driver’s name, ID number and purpose of visit.
Residents are unhappy with the operation, which they say evokes the restrictions Kenyans endured in the pre-Independence era.
