Sometimes it pisses off waking up to over a 1000 of non-meaningful Whatsapp messages from users in one of those spammy Whatsapp groups. You quickly check the Group members’ dashboard to see if at least you will notice someone you know only to find unknown persons’ whom you hardly interact with.
Well, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that could soon let you go to sleep in peace without having to worry about those mischievous Group Admins waking up in the middle of the night just to add you in a random Whatsapp group without your consent.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the new feature will require WhatsApp group admins to first send an invitations to users before adding them to theirs group. The feature dubbed the 'Group Invitation' will give users the power to accept or decline an invitation to be part of a Whatsapp group(s).
The Group invitation will has first been rolled out to iOS beta users for testing. Once live the feature will be available under an option called ‘Groups’.
To activate it one will be required to navigate to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups. From there a user will have three option of limiting their privacy settings for Group invitation to the following: Everyone: this acts like the normal way. Everyone will be able to add you to any Whatsapp group without requiring your permission. My Contacts: Once you activate this option you will see the invite prompt to accept or decline, when someone who is among your Whatsapp contact list adds you to a WhatsApp group. Nobody – once selected you will receive a prompt to either accept or decline an invitation from any Admin including those not among your contacts The report further adds that users will have only have 72 hours to accept an invitation to join a group, after which the invite will expire. Once an invite expires, users will have to wait for a new invitation,
The feature which is still under development will be available in future for all Android and iOS users.
