We live in a country where bloggers have now become endangered species. We cant live this way. Blogger Mutai was released yesterday maybe because they had no case against him. If there is war against hatespeech then we have lost it as a country- Free speech too Blogger Mutai was told to report to CID today. In Kenya land grabbers , murderers and hate mongers are free but the harassment of bloggers has become the gospel. Non reformers dont want us to speak. They want to silence us using state machinery at any time .
Mutai is being harassed for quoting an online scientific journal. Eh ? Now it has become a crime to quote SOMETHING ? Imagine someone arresting you for Retweeting something exposing something. Just like I said yesterday, If we are not careful, It will be a crime to Retweet something or share a Facebook status from someone.
In Mombasa, where they arrested Mutai, he was busy with his Job . The guy needs to go back and proceed with his life. His harassment is both childish and centuries behind times.
But here’s the guts of it; freedom of speech is a cornerstone of Kenya's way of life but it is a two way street and no-one should have the right to pick and choose who has the freedom to speak! I treasure that right and, unless others are allowed that same right, then the term “freedom of speech” becomes absurdly meaningless and a contradiction in terms.
Just like I Tweeted yesterday, I have freedom as far as I respect the law or incite anybody. If they cant let me express my views or any Kenyan's ...They are welcome to shoot me dead because I will be of no use to anyone.
