Fourteen people lost their lives in the Kericho Kisumu Highway

Yesternight, this blog broke the news of the grisly Accident at Awasi along the Kericho Kisumu Highway.

"The bus was travelling from Kisumu towards Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway when the driver tried to overtake a cane tractor and was involved in a head-on-collision with the trailer," said Mr Maweu, Kisumu County Police Commander.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital while survivors are also undergoing treatment at the facility, the regional police boss confirmed. NTSA Interior CS Fred Matiang’i last week ordered that National Transport & Safety Authority (NTSA) back on the roads, due to the increase in road accidents.

This comes nine months after President Kenyatta ordered all NTSA officers withdrawn from Kenyans roads and their duties taken over by traffic cops.

The only problem in this country is not laws, but implementation of those laws. NTSA officials were facing accusations of corruption and impunity in the enforcement of their duties; it doesn't seem they have changed.

Let's see how it goes.
