Story · Ongata Rongai, Kitengela, Kiserian Residents File Petition to Parliament Over Deplorable Road Conditions

Ongata Rongai Residents in Ongata Rongai, Kitengela, Kiserian, and adjacent areas in Kajiado County, Kenya, have submitted a petition to Parliament on the deplorable state of roads in their region.

The petition, submitted under Article 119 of the Constitution and Standing Orders 202 of the National Assembly, cites the constitutional rights to freedom of movement, a clean and healthy environment, and economic and social rights, including the right to health, housing, and education, as reasons for their concern.

According to the petition, roads in the area are designated to two separate authorities: the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURRA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) and are of great social and economic importance due to their proximity to Nairobi County and their role as hubs of economic activity.

The petition highlights that the abandoned roadworks have resulted in significant harm to residents, including high costs of transport and vehicle repairs, fuel wastage, exposure to dust and poor visibility, orthopedic complications, and increased risk to school-going children.

The residents and businesses in Ongata Rongai, Kitengela, Kiserian, and adjacent areas have expressed their frustrations with conflicting information from leaders and a lack of hope for when the works will commence. View document
