Kenya’s confirmed Ebola cases have risen to eight after health authorities detected one new infection on Sunday, October 18, as the country intensifies measures to contain the outbreak.

The Ministry of Health said 38 people were tested on Sunday, with one returning positive. The latest patient is a 49-year-old man who is not a healthcare worker and presented with fever, headache, and muscle pain. The result was confirmed by Director-General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth.

Kenya reported its first Bundibugyo Ebola case on October 6 involving a man who had spent seven years in the Democratic Republic of Congo before travelling to Nairobi through Uganda. He later died and was buried under public health protocols.

The subsequent cases have been linked to the initial patient, prompting intensified contact tracing, isolation, and surveillance.

Authorities have also strengthened screening at entry points, including JKIA, while urging the public to report symptoms and follow health guidance. The ministry’s toll-free hotline is 719.
