Standard Group Chief Executive Officer Chaacha Mwita is set to exit the media company on November 1, 2026, barely seven months after his substantive appointment, adding to a wave of leadership changes at one of Kenya’s oldest media houses.

In a notice signed by Company Secretary Catherine Kawira on behalf of the Board of Directors, the company confirmed Mwita’s impending departure from both the CEO position and his role as an Executive Director. However, the board did not disclose the reasons behind his exit.

“The Board takes this opportunity to express its sincere appreciation to Mr Chaacha for his dedication and invaluable contribution to the Company,” the notice stated.

Mwita officially became substantive CEO on April 1, 2026, after serving as acting chief executive from July 1, 2025. He assumed the acting position following the departure of Marion Gathoga-Mwangi, who resigned effective June 30, 2025, after approximately one year at the helm.

His planned exit raises fresh questions about leadership stability at Standard Group, particularly as the company undergoes significant changes at board level. However, no official link has been established between the executive departures and the company’s financial position.

On October 12, Standard Group announced that Non-Executive Directors Edward Mwasi and Dr James McFie had resigned, with their departures effective August 31, 2026.

The board has also brought in new leadership, announcing the appointment of Anthony Ambaka Kegode, Tom Odongo and Elishah Njeru as Independent Non-Executive Directors, effective October 15, 2026.
