Kenyan travelers can now access international mobile data more easily following the launch of Kwetu eSIM on the Safaricom M-PESA Super App.
The integration allows travelers, tourists and business professionals to purchase global mobile data using their M-PESA balances, removing some of the common challenges associated with staying connected while abroad.
Through the new Kwetu eSIM Mini App, users can browse available data packages, make payments in Kenya Shillings and activate digital SIM profiles covering more than 200 destinations worldwide.
The service is designed to eliminate the need to search for physical SIM cards after arriving at a foreign airport. It also provides an alternative to using international debit or credit cards and can help travelers avoid unexpected roaming charges.

M-PESA payments: Users can purchase travel data packages directly with their M-PESA funds without requiring an international debit or credit card.
Instant eSIM delivery: Once purchased, the digital SIM profile can be delivered electronically and activated without visiting a physical shop.
Dual-SIM functionality: Travelers can keep their primary Safaricom number active for calls and SMS while using Kwetu eSIM for mobile data through partner networks abroad.
Flexible data packages: Customers can choose from country-specific, regional and global plans, including packages designed for different travel periods and destinations.
How to access Kwetu eSIM ¶
Travelers can find the service through the M-PESA Super App by:
- Opening the M-PESA Super App.
- Going to the Services / Book & Travel Apps section.
- Selecting Kwetu eSIM.
- Choosing a suitable travel data package and completing the purchase.
The Kwetu eSIM Mini App is now live, allowing travelers to arrange their connectivity before leaving Kenya and use the service when they arrive at their destination.
