Workers at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP) in Mombasa have raised concerns over a tense working environment marked by intimidation, unexplained summonses, transfers and disciplinary action.

An insider speaking to Nyakundi Report, has exposed how staff members increasingly feel they cannot speak freely because of the influence wielded by senior administrators.

The complaint, submitted by an employee who requested anonymity for fear of possible retaliation, centres on Eunice Miringu, who is as the institution's Registrar Administration.

Eunice Miringu has become an influential figure within the polytechnic and is closely aligned with Chief Principal Michael Maina. The complainant says that employees who fall out of favour face transfers, demotions or dismissal, leaving many workers afraid to challenge decisions made by senior management.

KCNP's own website confirms that Miringu is part of the institution's management and lists her as Registrar Administration, while Michael Maina is listed as the Chief Principal. The institution describes its Management Board as responsible for the day to day management of the polytechnic, including the efficient management of human, physical and financial resources.

According to the employee, the atmosphere at the institution has become particularly difficult since the transfer of a former Chief Principal to another national polytechnic. Following that change, several senior administrative positions were also affected, including positions involving the Deputy Principal Administration, the Dean and the Registrar's offices.

I work at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, Mombasa. There is a problem with the management particularly the Registrat Admin, Madam Eunice Miringu. (She's now the Registrar after amechomea former Registrar akapewa transfer.

She an eye to the Chief Principal, Mr. Michael Maina Since they speak same language, Kikuyu, lemme tell you no one rests.

At times you are summoned for no reason, maybe simply because she's moody or hates you for no reason.

Few months back after the transfer of former Chief Principal to Kisii Polytechnic, she aided in transfer of all the top admission ie DP Admin,Dean,Registrar Admin,Registrar Academics.

Staffs are facing hard time in the institution and everyone works with fear because she's the ear to the Principal.

Many of my colleagues have been dismissed, many have been demoted or even transferred since they have no listening ear.

I feel that this should be addressed and should never happen in such a public institution.

Here is the sad part, imagine she has a say even to background check and decides who to assign, who to recruit etc.

Post it publicly wakenya wamsalimie and if possible aambiwe it's bad manners and these jobs are not to eternity

The question now is whether the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic Governing Council, the relevant TVET authorities and other oversight bodies are aware of the concerns being raised by staff and whether they are prepared to independently establish what is happening inside the institution.

For the employees they want a workplace where transfers, recruitment, disciplinary action and other management decisions are based on clear rules and professional considerations rather than personal relationships or fear.
