Bata Kenya Managing Director Abbas Shirazi has fled the country after a fatal road accident in Limuru in which a 57-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a Toyota Prado being driven by the senior corporate executive.

The accident occurred on September 5, 2026, at about 7:50 p.m. in the Redhill area along the Kabuku-Ndenderu road, according to a police report detailing the circumstances of the fatal collision.

Police identified the vehicle involved as a Toyota Prado registration number KDU 240K and named the driver as Abbas Shirazi, aged 53, while the pedestrian who died was identified as John Mbai Muinu, aged 57.

According to the police account, the Prado was travelling from the Kabuku direction towards Ndenderu when it struck Muinu as he was crossing the road from the right-hand side towards the left, facing the general direction of Ndenderu.

Muinu suffered severe head injuries and multiple fractures and died at the scene before he could receive medical assistance, turning what would ordinarily have been an evening journey along the busy road into a fatal police investigation.

His body was subsequently removed to Tigoni Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy intended to establish the precise medical cause of death.

Police officers who visited the scene also documented extensive damage to the Prado, including damage to its front section and body, as well as a shattered windscreen consistent with the impact described in the initial traffic report.

The vehicle was escorted to a police station and detained pending inspection, an important step in investigations into fatal traffic crashes because investigators can examine its mechanical condition alongside evidence collected from the scene.

The case has now attracted additional scrutiny following reports that Shirazi subsequently fled the country after the fatal crash.
