Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned President William Ruto against attempts to disrupt opposition political meetings, saying Kenyans must be allowed to hear competing political messages and choose their leaders freely in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Kitale during the memorial service of former Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa, Uhuru said stopping rallies, using intimidation or deploying violence against political opponents would take the country backwards.

He said opposition leaders should be free to campaign in any part of Kenya, including areas considered strongholds of rival parties.

Uhuru also rejected claims that he is financing opposition activities or selecting a candidate to challenge Ruto, saying Kenyans are capable of deciding for themselves whom to support.

His remarks followed attacks and disruptions reported at recent opposition meetings, including the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay.
