Parliament is facing pressure to pass several electoral reforms before the 2027 General Election, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission warning that delays could disrupt planning, procurement and election administration.

The pending changes touch on campaign financing, election offences, political parties, voter registration, dispute resolution, electoral boundaries and procedures governing presidential and parliamentary contests.

The commission says reforms need to be completed early enough to allow regulations, technology procurement, voter education and operational planning to proceed without last-minute legal uncertainty.

The delay has raised concern that Kenya could enter another election cycle with unresolved weaknesses identified after the 2022 polls.
