Stakeholders in Kenya’s meat industry are being urged to strengthen coordination across the value chain as the sector expands and consumer expectations around food safety, traceability and quality rise.

The industry supports millions of livestock keepers and workers across production, slaughter, processing, transport, retail and hospitality, but weak coordination can contribute to disease outbreaks, poor handling, market disruptions and consumer mistrust.

Industry players are calling for better information sharing between farmers, processors, veterinary authorities, traders, retailers, regulators and consumers.

Technology, traceability systems and stronger public-private engagement are also being promoted as tools for improving productivity and confidence in locally produced meat.
