Paul Ng’eno, the brother of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, has died after a long illness while receiving treatment in Eldoret.

Paul died on Friday, August 21, 2026, just hours after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited the family and pledged to settle his KSh1.8 million hospital bill. The family said his condition deteriorated unexpectedly despite having recently undergone surgery and being considered stable as preparations were made for his discharge.

Paul had reportedly been undergoing treatment following a motorcycle accident that affected his spinal cord and throat area. His death came 174 days after the death of his younger brother Johana, who was among six people killed in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28, 2026.

The latest death adds another painful loss to the family, which had already been mourning Johana's death earlier this year. Paul was the only brother of the late MP and the only surviving son of their mother, Mary Temas, popularly known as Mama Mary. He grew up alongside five siblings, including sisters Elizabeth Chumo and Sarah Temas.

Gachagua had pledged to help

Gachagua visited the Ng’eno family on Friday and met with Johana's mother and other relatives. During the visit, he pledged to settle Paul's KSh1.8 million medical bill and also committed to financing the construction of a mausoleum for the late MP, following an appeal from Johana's mother.

The former Deputy President has previously questioned the circumstances surrounding Johana's death and called for further investigations into the February helicopter crash, including involving international investigative agencies.

Johana Ng’eno died alongside five others when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Chepkiep Village, Mosop Sub County, Nandi County, on February 28.

Paul's death now leaves the family facing another bereavement barely six months after Johana's death.

The family is yet to announce funeral arrangements for Paul Ng’eno
