A police officer has died following violent clashes during a Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay Town, where several officers were injured and both government and civilian vehicles were reportedly burnt or damaged.

According to a police signal recorded at Homa Bay Police Station on August 17, 2026, Police Constable and driver Jim Richardson Okundi, service number 109922, was pronounced dead on arrival at Russia Hospital in Kisumu.

The violence reportedly erupted after a Linda Mwananchi team led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders was attacked during the rally. Police described those involved in the attack as ODM Linda Ground supporters.

Several officers were injured, including SSP Fredrick Ombaka, who suffered head bruises and neck pain, while Corporal Leonard Wanjala sustained a cut to his right thumb and complained of back pain. Other injured officers included Police Constable Geoffrey Kebenei and Police Constable Benard Odundo.
