Fresh complaints have emerged from workers and equipment owners involved in the construction of the Rironi Mau Summit Highway, with a local subcontractor accused of failing to pay people after work had already been completed.

According to the whistleblower, the concerns relate to Monio Cluster Limited, a contractor reportedly undertaking works along Kilometre 33 to Kilometre 40, covering the Thika Mangu Flyover to Kinungi section of the highway.

The complainant alleges that the company, through its director Alex Yego, recruited labourers and mobilised tipper trucks and other construction equipment to support the road works.

The whistleblower claims the work was successfully completed, but many workers and equipment owners were allegedly left unpaid after the assignments ended.

This allegation has not been independently verified.

According to the complainant, several labourers were reportedly laid off immediately after completing their duties without receiving the wages they had earned.

The whistleblower further claims that owners of tipper trucks and other heavy equipment hired for the project are also still waiting for payment despite providing services during the construction works.

The complainant says the alleged delays have left many families struggling financially, with casual workers unable to meet basic needs and equipment owners facing loan repayments, fuel bills and maintenance costs without compensation for work already done.

The whistleblower argues that subcontractors working on major government infrastructure projects should honour their contractual obligations to workers and service providers.

Employees and suppliers say infrastructure development should create opportunities for local communities, not leave them chasing payments months after completing their work.

The concerns also raise questions about oversight of subcontractors participating in one of Kenya's largest road infrastructure projects.

Workers are now calling on the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to establish whether all contractors and subcontractors engaged on the project are meeting their obligations to employees and suppliers.

The complainants are also appealing to the State Department for Labour and Skills Development to investigate the reported non payment claims and ensure affected workers receive any wages lawfully owed to them.

There is a local contractor working on the Rironi Mau Summit Highway between Kilometre 33 and Kilometre 40 from Thika Mangu Flyover to Kinungi called Monio Cluster Limited.

Since the project began, the director, Mr Alex Yego, has been mobilising labour and equipment. After the work is completed, workers are laid off without being paid.

The same has happened to owners of tipper trucks and other equipment hired for the project. We are asking the relevant authorities to intervene because many people have not been paid despite completing their work.
