The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially launched the recruitment of a new Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), opening applications for one of Kenya's most powerful electoral positions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, July 28, the commission announced that the successful candidate will serve a four-year renewable contract and oversee the day-to-day operations of the electoral body as its accounting officer.

The recruitment follows the resignation of former CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan in February, with Acting CEO Moses Ledama Sunkuli currently holding the position.

The incoming CEO will spearhead critical electoral functions, including voter registration, election logistics, procurement of polling materials, management of the KIEMS system and implementation of commission policies as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a university degree, at least five years of senior management experience and expertise in areas such as elections, governance, law, finance, public administration or political science. Candidates must also satisfy the integrity requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Interested applicants have until 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2026, to submit their applications via email, with shortlisted candidates expected to present original academic, professional and clearance documents during interviews.
