Chief Justice Martha Koome has suspended Kangema Senior Principal Magistrate Martin Kinyua Mutegi from judicial duties with immediate effect following his arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged bribery.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, Koome said the magistrate was arrested alongside a probation officer over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe linked to a case before the Kangema Law Courts.

The Chief Justice said the suspension will remain in force as investigations continue, noting that the move is in line with the law and established judicial procedures and does not interfere with the ongoing criminal probe.

Koome also confirmed that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the judicial officer under the Judicial Service Act and the Judiciary's Human Resource policies.

The action comes as the Judiciary reiterates its commitment to integrity, accountability, and zero tolerance for corruption within the justice system.
