Questions are mounting after government relief food intended for vulnerable families in Muhoroni Sub County was allegedly diverted and stored at a private residence instead of being distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
The incident has now triggered a police investigation, with detectives recovering hundreds of bags of food and arresting two suspects.
According to a police report from Masogo Police Station, officers acting on intelligence raided the home of the late Johana Nyasuna, Governor Gladys Wanga's father, at Ngere Kagoro Sub Location in North East Kano Sub County, where they found government relief food that had been delivered to the premises.
The food was intended for the Deputy County Commissioner's (DCC) office in Muhoroni Sub-County, for distribution to residents in Chemelil.
Police say they recovered 300 bags of rice weighing 50 kilograms each, 250 bags of beans weighing 50 kilograms each, and 20 bags of Uji Mix weighing 25 kilograms each.
Recovered at the scene were:
300 bags of rice (50kg each) 250 bags of beans (50kg each) 20 bags of Uji Mix (25kg each)
Investigators also found a Mercedes-Benz trailer, registration number KCG 240F, which police say had been used to transport the consignment. According to the police report, the vehicle belongs to Pontypridd Holdings.
The driver, identified as Charles Gichoki, together with a storekeeper, was arrested and is assisting investigators as detectives seek to establish how the government food ended up at the private residence.
The matter is now under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Muhoroni.
Fresh allegations have also emerged regarding how the consignment was received before it reached the private home.
According to information shared with this publication, the food was offloaded using the offices of the Wangaya West Community Water and Sanitation project.
The whistleblower claims a delivery acknowledgement was signed by a person identified as Albert, despite members of the Community Based Organisation reportedly saying they do not know anyone by that name who is authorised to receive goods on behalf of the organisation.
The incident has raised serious questions about the handling of government relief food, particularly at a time when many vulnerable families depend on emergency food assistance.
Residents are now asking who authorized the diversion of the consignment, who signed the delivery documents, and whether there were other individuals involved beyond those already arrested.
The recovery also raises broader concerns about accountability in the management of relief supplies.
Government food aid is procured using public funds to assist vulnerable Kenyans during periods of hardship. Any diversion of such supplies, if established, would deny deserving families access to essential food assistance.
The matter now places responsibility on the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the Office of the Deputy County Commissioner, Muhoroni, the National Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and other relevant agencies to establish how the consignment left its intended destination and whether additional suspects should face investigation.
Below is part of the information received.

According to the police occurrence report, officers acting on intelligence recovered the relief food from the home of the late Johana Nyasuna, arrested the driver and a storekeeper, and handed the matter over to the DCI Muhoroni for further investigations.
Who authorized the diversion of the relief food?
Why was it delivered to a private residence instead of the DCC?
Who signed for the consignment on behalf of the CBO?
Was this an isolated incident or part of a wider scheme involving relief supplies?
Authorities are expected to continue investigations as the public awaits answers on how government food intended for vulnerable Kenyans ended up at a private homestead instead of reaching those it was meant to serve.
