Online betting has become increasingly popular in Kenya, attracting thousands of users with promises of quick winnings, attractive bonuses, and easy withdrawals.
While many licensed betting firms operate under regulatory oversight, concerns continue to emerge about little-known platforms that allegedly make it difficult—or even impossible—for customers to access their winnings.
One of the oldest warning signs of a potential online betting scam is when a customer is asked to pay money before receiving their winnings.
Financial experts and consumer protection agencies have repeatedly cautioned that legitimate companies generally deduct any applicable taxes or charges directly from winnings rather than asking customers to make separate payments before processing withdrawals.
This is why complaints involving delayed withdrawals, unexplained fees, and demands for additional payments should be taken seriously.
Where customers believe they have been misled, regulators should establish whether the platform is operating legally and whether consumer protection laws are being observed.
Hello Nyakundi,
Kindly hide my identity.
I would like to raise concerns about an online betting platform known as BettBlaze Kenya.
I joined the platform, placed my bets, and eventually won.
However, when I tried to withdraw my winnings, I was informed that I first had to pay a 15% "tax" before my withdrawal could be processed.
Believing this was a legitimate requirement, I deposited the requested amount.
Unfortunately, even after making the payment, my withdrawal has remained pending.
There has been no clear explanation as to why the money has not been released.
This has left me wondering whether this betting platform is operating legitimately or whether it is simply using the promise of winnings to lure people into sending more money.
What worries me is that I may not be the only victim.
There could be many other Kenyans who have won bets, only to be told they must first pay additional fees or taxes before accessing their own money.
If that is indeed how this platform operates, then many unsuspecting users could lose substantial amounts of money.
I am appealing to the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), relevant financial regulators, and consumer protection authorities to investigate this platform and determine whether it is licensed to operate in Kenya and whether its withdrawal practices comply with the law.
I also urge fellow Kenyans to exercise caution before sending additional money to any online platform that demands payment before releasing winnings.
If taxes are legitimately payable, customers deserve transparency about how they are calculated and collected.
I hope this matter receives attention before more people lose their hard-earned money.
