Newsroom · 2h

Business owners in Nairobi continue to face growing concerns over insecurity, vandalism, and deliberate attacks targeting their premises. For many small traders, years of hard work and investment can be wiped out within minutes by a fire, burglary, or criminal act. That is why incidents involving suspected arson are treated seriously, especially where lives, livelihoods, and property are placed at risk.

Security cameras have increasingly become an important tool in helping businesses identify suspects and assist police investigations. In many cases, members of the public have helped identify individuals captured on CCTV footage, leading to arrests and successful prosecutions. This is why sharing information can sometimes make the difference between a case going cold and a suspect being brought to justice.

Where there is evidence suggesting an attempt to deliberately start a fire, investigators must establish the facts, identify those responsible, and determine whether the act was motivated by personal grievances, criminal intent, or other factors. Such matters should be handled through proper investigations and legal processes.

Hello Nyakundi,

Kindly hide my identity.

I am appealing to members of the public to help us identify a man who was captured on CCTV and is suspected of attempting to set our shop on fire in Utawala, Githunguri area.

According to what we observed from the CCTV footage, the suspect arrived carrying a blue bag that we believe contained a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol.

The footage appears to show him moving around the premises before allegedly sprinkling the substance near the shop.

Moments later, he is seen leaving the area as a fire starts.

By God's grace, the fire was noticed and contained before it could spread further and cause massive destruction.

However, some property was damaged during the incident.

The matter has already been reported to the police, and an Occurrence Book (OB) report was recorded.

We are now appealing to anyone who may recognize the individual captured in the CCTV footage or who may have information regarding his identity and whereabouts to come forward.

Any information shared can be reported to the nearest police station or provided confidentially to assist with investigations.

We believe someone out there may know this individual and help authorities establish exactly what happened.

We are not seeking mob justice.

We simply want the suspect identified so that the matter can be properly investigated through the legal system.

If you recognize the individual appearing in the CCTV footage or have any information that may assist investigators, kindly report it to the authorities.

Please share widely.

Someone knows this man.

Concerned Business Owner.
