Mediamax has dismissed as fake a circulating notice claiming that Kameme FM would be shut down for 30 days.

The notice, which had been widely shared online, claimed that the Kikuyu-language station would go off air from Thursday, June 18, following an alleged show-cause notice from the Media Council of Kenya and an internal editorial review by Mediamax.

Through Kameme FM’s official social media pages, Mediamax flagged the notice as fake and made it clear that it had not sanctioned any closure of the station.

The fake statement had claimed that Kameme FM and Kameme FM Online would suspend broadcasts to allow company-wide editorial training, policy review and internal restructuring, but Mediamax has now moved to shut down the speculation.

Kameme FM remains one of Mediamax Network’s flagship radio brands, with a strong audience across the Mt Kenya region, where vernacular radio continues to play a major role in politics, public opinion and community conversation.

The fake shutdown notice also came at a time when Kameme FM has been attracting political attention, especially after presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba, popularly known as Baby Top, recently raised alarm over her safety and accused powerful figures of exposing her private information online.

For now, the confirmed position is that Kameme FM has not been shut down, and the widely circulated 30-day closure notice is fake.
