Former Taita Taveta County Director of Political Affairs Geoffrey Kimonge Mbago has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over corruption and economic crimes allegations involving Sh12.4 million in public funds.
According to EACC, Mbago was arrested by detectives on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, and processed at Voi Police Station ahead of his arraignment before the Anti-Corruption Court in Voi, where he is expected to take plea.
The commission says investigations established that the former county official fraudulently acquired public funds and failed to account for Sh12.4 million while serving in the Taita Taveta County Government.
EACC Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication Stephen Karugu said the inquiry file had been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which approved Mbago’s prosecution after reviewing the recommendations.
Mbago is expected to face charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property and deceiving a principal under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
EACC says the case forms part of its wider push to hold public officers accountable for the management and use of public resources.
