Seven students from Utumishi Girls Academy have been arraigned at the Naivasha Law Courts in connection with a suspected arson attack that resulted in the deaths of 16 learners last week.
The suspects appeared before the court as detectives continue to piece together evidence surrounding the dormitory fire that shocked the country. The prosecution informed the court that investigations are still ongoing, with forensic analysis and witness statements forming part of the case file.
The tragic incident, which occurred at the school’s dormitory, left several other students injured and triggered national concern over safety in boarding schools.
The court is expected to give further directions as authorities seek more time to complete investigations into the circumstances and possible motive behind the deadly blaze.
