OPINION: Postpone Mau Forest Evictions Until After Exams
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
Yes, Hon. Khalwale is right.
The little ones should prepare and do their KCPE and KCSE exams in peace. Then come 2020, their parents should be resettled in another area and given the right infrastructure for the continuation of their kids education.
Mau is not on fire to make us do the evictions as if were evacuating them from a disaster. One years stay will not do more damage than what has been done already.
I support the national effort to conserve our environment. If we destroy it we go with it. In fact if we opened these water catchment areas for settlement all the millions of landless Kenyans would land there to get a piece of the virgin land. Where would that lead us? Desertification.
Before we evict these little citizens or oppose their eviction because of selfish political reasons let us ask ourselves why there are hordes of landless Kenyans.
Was God so wrong he put these little Kenyans here without a place for them to call home?
No!.This world created by an Omniscient God has enough resources for every soul that is born in it. What is the trouble then?
There are greedy people who grab and horde what belongs to the little people. Such are the people who force desperate people to make homes in forests and disturb the environment.
Some lone voices have been crying for land review policy in Kenya to ensure every Kenyan gets a reasonable share of this basic natural resource that we all need. But human greed and miscalculations and utter stupidity won’t allow this! So some "lucky" Kenyans grab as they don’t buy and horde hundreds of thousands of hectares of land they can never hope to use even if they and their families lived as long as Methusela, for 969 years! Such people make everybody else suffer.
So as we point fingers at these poor evictees let us see ourselves pointing at ourselves with 3 fingers and the big thumb.
So as we think more soberly let us let these poor kids do their exams in peace. Then we resettle their parents in the land grabbed and lying idle because Kenyas land belong to all Kenyans born herein.
