Political temperatures in Central Kenya are rising fast as Moses Kuria fires back at Rigathi Gachagua’s claims that he is secretly funding former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.
Kuria, who recently resigned from President Ruto’s administration, has sparked debate across the country. Is he really opposing Ruto, or is this just a smokescreen to confuse Mt. Kenya voters ahead of the 2027 elections?
With accusations flying and alliances shifting, Kuria’s role in the power struggle between Ruto and Gachagua is now under the spotlight—and many believe it’s all part of a wider plot.

Moses Kuria Denies Funding Maina Njenga but Sparks Bigger Political Questions
Former Cabinet Secretary and Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has rejected allegations from Rigathi Gachagua that he is backing Maina Njenga to divide the Central Kenya vote. But Kuria’s sarcastic denial has left more questions than answers.
Taking to his X account on Saturday, Kuria dismissed Gachagua’s claims in his signature sharp tone. He accused the former Deputy President of playing dirty politics and pretending to be clean when he’s no stranger to manipulation.
“Rigathi Gachagua has accused me during his tour of the US of funding and supporting Maina Njenga. I am guilty as charged. I learnt from the best,” Kuria wrote, mocking the accusations.
Kuria went further and claimed he had seen Gachagua’s dark side in previous meetings when both served under President Ruto. According to him, Gachagua’s history is full of deception, and his current moral posturing is nothing but a show.
Kuria’s Resignation Raises Suspicions About His True Motives
Just days before this clash, Kuria publicly resigned from his position as Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor. While his statement was calm and respectful, political observers say the timing couldn’t be more suspicious.
In a post dated July 8, Kuria said, “This evening I have met my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government.”
He thanked Ruto for trusting him with top government roles—first as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, then for Public Service, and finally as Senior Advisor.
But Gachagua and his allies believe this resignation is a political trick. They claim Kuria is still closely tied to Ruto and is now being used to create the illusion of rebellion within Mt. Kenya.
This would allow him to reach voters who feel left out or disillusioned by the Kenya Kwanza government—while secretly advancing Ruto’s 2027 reelection agenda.
Kuria, now operating outside official government positions, appears freer to attack Ruto’s opponents without staining the President’s hands. It’s a strategy that could allow Ruto to quietly weaken Gachagua’s grip on Central Kenya while pretending to stay neutral.

Is Ruto Using Moses Kuria and Maina Njenga to Weaken Gachagua?
Gachagua is not keeping quiet. In a public speech, he urged Mt Kenya residents to stay alert. He claimed people like Moses Kuria were being used to confuse the region.
“When you see a party or an individual like Moses Kuria praising certain ideas or directions, understand that it is aligned with what the President wants,” Gachagua warned.
He further stated, “This is not accidental. There is a calculated political strategy to divide Mt Kenya votes into two blocs. Unfortunately, some of our own are being used to achieve this.”
The former Deputy President believes that Kuria’s so-called rebellion is not genuine. Instead, it’s a tactic to break Mt Kenya’s political unity and stop Gachagua from becoming the region’s kingpin.
Even more controversial is the mention of Maina Njenga—a figure tied to the dark past of the Mungiki sect. Kuria’s alleged support for Njenga, whether true or not, stirs fear and suspicion in a region that has worked hard to move past its violent political history.
Critics argue that using Maina Njenga in this game is reckless. It could stir old wounds, provoke fear among older voters, and create deep divisions along clan and generational lines.
Moses Kuria vs Gachagua Feud and Its Impact on Central Kenya Politics
The drama between Moses Kuria and Rigathi Gachagua is not just a personal grudge. It’s a sign of the political war brewing in Central Kenya as the 2027 elections draw closer.
With Ruto at the center, pulling strings silently, Kuria’s exit from government may not be what it seems. His sharp attacks on Gachagua, mixed with his past loyalty to the President, are making many question his real agenda.
The big question now is simple: Is Moses Kuria a true political rebel—or a clever pawn in William Ruto’s larger plan to control Central Kenya by turning its leaders against each other?
