No structured memory yet.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has released the first batch of the county’s Sh157 million bursary fund.

Passed by the Kiambu Assembly, the fund comes at a time when school fees have skyrocketed despite intervention by the national government.

Kabogo said the fund will benefit needy and bright students from across the county.

When issuing the bursary cheques in Kiambu sub-county, Governor Kabogo noted that his government would lobby the County Assembly to increase the fund to Sh300 million to benefit more people.

He has already issued cheques in Thika, Gatundu South, Ruiru, Githurai, Githunguri and Gatundu North.

“The bursary fund is here to benefit needy students and is being issued to applicants who have been vetted. This will make sure the children are in school and we will increase individual allocations.”

He said that the county will issue Sh1.2 million per ward for the first term of 2015 with prospects of increasing the allocations in the next term.

At the same time, Kabogo promised to increase clean water access for county residents saying it was time county leaders focused on development.
