Gachagua drops bid for reinstatement as DP, shifts court case to compensation and benefits

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has abandoned his bid to be reinstated as Deputy President, with his legal team informing the High Court that he will no longer pursue a return to office.

He will instead seek compensation, benefits due to a former Deputy President, and declarations that the impeachment process violated the Constitution and legal procedures.

Ongoya further pointed to what he termed an imbalance in the trial schedule, stating that Gachagua’s side was allocated limited time to challenge multiple witnesses, which he said undermined fair hearing standards and proper judicial accountability.
