Controversy Over Graduate Constable Salaries
In February 2022, graduate constables protested after the NPSC reduced their salaries. The commission stated there was no rank titled “graduate constable.” About 1,000 officers threatened legal action after receiving payslips with reduced pay. Two officers sued the commission, but the High Court ruled that any salary increment must follow approval from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). This decision denied the officers a salary raise. Despite having a legal provision (Section 83 of the National Police Service Act) that allows officers to raise complaints, they cannot strike or join unions because of the sensitive nature of their work.DCI, AP, and GSU Officer Salaries
