KAA Responds To Cyprian Nyakundi Over Suspended Staff Medical Scheme
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
Kenya Airports Authority has clarified the issue concerning suspension of their staff medical cover.
Through a statement sent to CNYAKUNDI. COM, the corporation agrees that their medical scheme with Britam expired, but insists that employees can still access services at selected medical facilities.
'The correct position is that Britam acted to suspend the contract after it did not reach a consensus with management of KAA over premiums rates. Under the circumstances, the management of KAA promptly negotiated direct relationships with the hospitals affected to allow employees to access medical services. All our employees are able to access their medical benefits', the statement read in part.
Employees at the corporation however disagree.
READ: KAA Locks Out Employees From Medical Scheme Due To Planned Strike Over JKIA Takeover They are suspicious that the medical scheme was suspended in order to arm-twist them into not taking part in a strike, organised by the Aviation Workers Union, scheduled for tomorrow.
The strike is meant to protest the planned takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by loss making Kenya Airways (KQ).
The takeover will see KAA and KQ merge into a single entity.
The Employment and Labour Relations Court has today evening stopped the strike paving way for talks.
We shall keep you updated as more information trickles in.
