Newsroom Updated 2 min read
[ad_1] On May 1st 2019, former Internal Security Minister Chris Ndarathi Murungaru won a court case of defamation in which he was suing former anti-corruption czar John Githongo for linking him to corruption. The court presided by Justice Joseph Sergon slapped Githongo with a Ksh27 million for defamation. Githongo had exposed the plundering and looting of public funds in 2002. This is what came to be known as Anglo-leasing where Kenyans lost over Ksh50 billion ($600 million); paid for work not done. On 22 January 2006, Githongo named then Vice president Moody Awori as one of four top politicians (with KIRAITU MURUNGI, former JUSTICE MINISTER and later energy minister; finance minister DAVID MWIRARIA and former Internal security later transport minister CHRIS MURUNGARU) as being involved in the Anglo Leasing scams. Mr. Githongo was forced to flee Kenya for sometime due to threats to his life in 2005. He came back to Kenya in 2008. Appeal In a Civil appeal case number 404 of 2019, the CEO of Inuka Trust has decided to appeal against the award of Ksh27 million to Chris Murungaru. The hearing of the case will be on Wednesday 13th day of November, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. In May, this year, Githongo promised to appeal the decision of the high court case number 446 of 2006.
