Who Is Fred Matiang’i?
Fred Okengo Matiang’i is a Kenyan and a former Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government. He is now eyeing the presidency and is actively preparing to run in 2027.
He became acting Interior Cabinet Secretary on 8 July 2017 after the death of Joseph Ole Nkaissery. At the same time, he continued as Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science, and Technology, holding both roles.
In January 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta officially appointed him as Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and Coordination of National Government.
On 22 January 2019, through Executive Order Number 1 of 2019, President Kenyatta appointed him chairperson of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee.
This committee includes all Cabinet Secretaries, the Attorney-General, and the Head of the Public Service, who acts as the secretariat.

Fred Okengo Matiang’i was born in 1968 in Borabu, Nyamira County, Kenya, which was then part of the larger Kisii District.
