Tea Auction Sees Prices Plummet in June 2020

On June 2nd and 3rd, 2020, the Mombasa Tea Auction saw a substantial increase in the amount of tea offered for sale, with 12.3 million kilograms up from 8.3 million kilograms in the same period the previous year.

Despite the surge in tea supply, the auction recorded a notable increase in sales, with 10 million kilograms sold compared to 6.7 million kilograms in the same period in 2019.

However, the sale was marked by a decline in prices, with a kilogram selling at an average of $1.81, down from $2.08 in the same period the previous year and $1.83 during the previous auction.
