This archive report was first published on 7 June 2020.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Kenya, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) election stalemate and the cancellation of the Kenyan Premier League have created a recipe for chaos in Kenyan football.

On March 2020, the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) suspended the FKF elections and ruled that a normalization committee be put in place by the Ministry of Sports. However, FKF President Nick Mwendwa appealed to Fifa, which dismissed the Tribunal's decision and called for talks.

Despite Fifa's intervention, the situation remains unresolved, with FKF and the SDT at odds over the way forward. The Kenya Premier League (KPL) has also not agreed with FKF's decision to cancel this season's league, with the KPL Governing Council having the power to make a decision on the cancellation.

As the situation continues to unfold, football stakeholders are left wondering what the future holds for Kenyan football. Will the FKF election stalemate be resolved, or will the cancellation of the Kenyan Premier League create a precedent for the federation to take over everything?

Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the future of Kenyan football hangs in the balance.
