Published on June 7, 2020, Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson has changed his stance on the upcoming Merseyside derby, now wanting the match to be played at Goodison Park.
The match, scheduled for June 21, was initially considered a 'high risk' game due to concerns about fans congregating outside in violation of social distancing rules.
However, Anderson believes that the city is in a better place to safely stage the match, citing the efforts of fans and clubs to spread the message about social distancing.
"We are in a better place than we were four weeks ago and we've been able to convey why it's so important nobody congregates outside or near grounds," Anderson told The Athletic website.
Merseyside Police have also expressed no objections to the derby being played at Goodison Park.
The matter will be discussed at Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group meeting on Monday.
