On June 7, 2020, Kenya marked a significant milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic with the highest number of positive cases recorded in a single day. According to the health ministry, 167 new cases were reported after 2833 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 2767, with 159 Kenyans and 8 foreigners among them, including Eritreans and a South Sudanese national. The ages of the new patients range from 11 months to 75 years.

The new infections were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording the highest number of cases at 54, followed by Mombasa with 47 cases. Other counties that reported cases include Busia, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Machakos, Homa Bay, Kwale, Makueni, Migori, Siaya, and Turkana.

However, the health ministry also reported a positive development, with 46 more COVID-19 patients being discharged from the hospital after recovering from the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus. This brings the total number of recoveries to 752.

Unfortunately, one more patient succumbed to the disease, raising the total number of fatalities to 84. The government's decision to reopen schools on September 1, 2020, and the announcement of a revised curfew schedule have been met with mixed reactions.
