On June 7, 2020, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe issued a stern warning to bar owners in Nairobi who were flouting Covid-19 directives.
According to Kagwe, the government had taken note of the continued disregard of its directives by some bar owners and warned that their licenses might be withdrawn forever.
“Those opening bars and selling alcohol, we have taken note. Most likely your license will be revoked forever,” Kagwe said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had earlier extended the ban on all forms of gatherings, including bars, by 30 more days on June 6, 2020.
The Health CS also clarified that the directive to close down bars had not been lifted, jokingly adding that people visiting bars were now even requesting for ‘one Kagwe-special’.
