Covid-19 Cases Surge to 2,767 as 167 Test Positive

On June 7, 2020, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced a record high in Covid-19 cases in Kenya, with 167 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The total number of positive cases now stands at 2,767, with 46 new recoveries bringing the total number to 752.

One person has succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 83.

The new cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi recording 54 new cases, Mombasa 47, and Busia 28.

Other counties that reported new cases include Kiambu (14), Uasin Gishu (11), Kisumu (4), Machakos (3), Migori, Homabay, Kwale, Siaya, and Turkana (one case each).

CS Kagwe urged Kenyans to continue working from home, saying it is the best way to curb the spread of the virus.

He also warned entertainment joints selling alcohol and flouting the Ministry's guidelines, saying their licenses will be revoked.

CS Kagwe emphasized the importance of the 47 County response teams meeting to ensure they make plans to achieve the 300 bed capacity as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He lauded Nyumba Kumis for their role in rural areas, saying their support towards the fight against the spread of the virus is highly appreciated.
