Kenya has recorded a record high of 167 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of positive cases to 2767. The cases were confirmed after testing 2833 samples in the last 24 hours.
According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the number is the highest daily figure recorded since the first case in March. Among the positive cases, one is an 11-month-old baby.
There were 46 new recoveries, bringing the total number to 752, while the death toll now stands at 83 after one person succumbed to the virus.
The new cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi having 54 new cases, Mombasa 47 cases, and Busia 28 cases.
Other counties that reported new cases include Kiambu with 14 cases, Uasin Gishu with 11 cases, Kisumu with 4 cases, Machakos with 3 cases, and Migori, Homabay, Kwale, Siaya, and Turkana with one case each.
CS Kagwe urged Kenyans to continue working from home, saying it is the best way to curb the spread of the virus. He also warned entertainment joints selling alcohol and flouting the Ministry's guidelines that their licenses will be revoked.
He emphasized that the ban on bars has not been lifted and urged proprietors to follow the guidelines or risk prosecution.
CS Kagwe also lauded Nyumba Kumis for their role in rural areas, saying their support towards the fight against the spread of the virus is highly appreciated.
Dr. Patrick Amoth, a health official, said that for one to be viable for home-based care, they must not have pre-existing conditions. He also stated that those who have been in isolation for 10 days and do not exhibit Covid-19 symptoms will be released for home-based care.
Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti, who accompanied CS Kagwe during the briefing, said it is unfortunate that 36 counties have not taken adequate measures to combat the virus, emphasizing the need for Kenyans to be more responsible.
