On June 7, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 2,767 after 167 tested positive from 2,833 samples in the last 24 hours.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases comprise 125 males and 42 females, with Nairobi County having the highest number of infections at 54, followed by Mombasa (47), Busia (28), Kiambu (14), and Uasin Gishu (11).

Mr. Kagwe noted that Kenya had discharged 46 patients, raising the country's total number of recoveries to 752. Unfortunately, one more patient had died, bringing Kenya's Covid-19 death toll to 84.

Mr. Kagwe emphasized the importance of counties taking responsibility in managing the pandemic, stating, 'It is so critical to ensure that counties begin to take responsibility. The test of a devolved system is going to be now.'

He also announced that the national government would intervene directly in the case of Busia County due to the increased number of truck drivers turning positive, adding that an 11-month-old baby was among the infected.

Regarding the opening of bars and sale of alcohol, Mr. Kagwe reiterated that the government's position remained the same, stating, 'Opening of bars and sale of alcohol remain banned, those who flout the rules will have licenses revoked.'
