On June 7, 2020, Kiambu County ward representatives expressed their discontent with the distribution of relief food meant to combat the spread of coronavirus.

According to the MCAs, the food distribution was inadequate, with each ward receiving only 200kgs of rice to feed vulnerable families.

However, the MCAs argued that this amount was insufficient for the population, with some wards having over 30,000 residents.

Kamenu Ward MCA Raphael Chege questioned the rationale behind the distribution, stating, “What can 200kgs rice do for my people, the governor is causing animosity between the MCAs and locals.”

Speaking in Ruiru, Governor James Nyoro defended his critics, urging them to stop politicizing the food distribution exercise.
