On June 6, 2020, Sports and Heritage Chief Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan toured the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret, which has been stalled for years.
The stadium was commissioned in 2012 to host the London Olympic Games, but its renovation stalled due to various challenges.
Speaking during the tour, Hassan Noor Hassan assured the contractor that the Government would make prompt payments to ensure the project's completion within the next six months.
“The stadium will be done in the next six months, and I urge the contractor to move swiftly with the construction as there will be no more delay now that the funds have been released,” said Hassan Noor.
The project's delay was attributed to the lack of flow of resources, but the Government has now committed to completing the stadium.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa accompanied Hassan Noor Hassan during the tour.
The stadium is set to host the Olympic trials once it's completed, with plans already in place for the event.
National trials for the Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to take place in June next year.
