Kenya is on the cusp of significant changes, with President Uhuru Kenyatta working to bring in committed individuals to drive his development and unity agenda. According to Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, who was recently appointed the majority chief whip in the Senate, the President is determined to ensure all ongoing projects across the country are completed before the end of his term.
Speaking during a food distribution event in Muthithi, Kigumo Sub-county, Senator Kang'ata noted that some cabinet secretaries and parastatal heads have been engaging in corruption deals, thus hampering the implementation of government projects. He predicted that some of the culprits may lose their positions and others get reshuffled as the President moves to put in place a determined team.
“The President is on record saying he is determined to ensure the country is united, a move which was initiated through the handshake and also the implementation of the Big Four agenda. If as a leader you are not supporting the President in his efforts, then count yourself out,” Senator Kang'ata stated.
He emphasized that the changes are not targeted at any particular group, but rather aimed at removing those who have not been performing their duties effectively in both the National Assembly and the Senate. The Senator also clarified that the government is not weakening the mandate of independent institutions, saying the President respects decisions by the Judiciary and Parliament.
Senator Kang'ata's office will continue supporting families affected by hunger occasioned by COVID-19, with the Senator having been going around the county donating food and non-food items to vulnerable residents.
