Published on June 7, 2020, a report emerged that Diezani Allison Madueke, Nigeria's former Minister of Petroleum, had been appointed as Commissioner for Trade and Investment by Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
However, it has been confirmed that the appointment was actually made by Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, not the Dominican Republic.
Diezani Madueke is on the watchlist of Nigeria's anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for alleged money laundering.
She was granted citizenship of the Commonwealth of Dominica, a Caribbean island country, prior to her appointment.
Diezani Madueke was issued a diplomatic passport, DP0000445, by the Dominican Government on May 21, 2015, shortly before the handover to President Muhammadu Buhari by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Her citizenship was confirmed by a May 29, 2015, approval letter by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit.
Diezani Madueke was also appointed as a Trade and Investment Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Dominica.
In a letter to Diezani Madueke, the Prime Minister wrote, 'I am pleased to confirm your appointment as Trade and Investment Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Dominica.'
He also stated that the appointment did not attract a remunerative package, but was encouraged by her willingness to serve.
